Designing a tag is easy!
There are only a few key things to remember when designing a tag:
- The design area is small, roughly the size of a U.S. Quarter or a one Euro coin. Keep your design simple for quality and clarity.
- PATHTAGS are custom on one side only, so you only need to design a single side.
- Don't use gradients in your design. Pathtags do not support gradients and are colored using enamel, not printing. Photos and other designs which rely on gradients can be submitted, but will be converted during the blueprint process and may not turn out as expected. It is often preferable to seek the assistance of a design partner to convert such designs prior to production. Stick with bright eye catching colors for the best result.
- You can use unlimited colors, but we suggest using under 6 colors in your design for quality and clarity.
- Only 2D designs for round tags are accepted at this time.
- Avoid very fine colored detail. Colors are applied using enamel. The enamel is a liquid (like a paint) and is inlaid into tiny "canals" on your coin by hand and then hardened. Designs with very fine detail cannot be colored well.
- Submit large artwork. We make a blueprint from your original artwork, having high resolution (larger than 500x500 pixels at 72dpi) original artwork is very helpful.
- Make it fun and personal! Be creative! Create a design for each person in your team or use a common design between you!
- If designing your own tag, you will need to show which areas are raised metal and which are recessed. Show raised metal as a light color in your plating option and recessed as dark. Light and dark grey for silver, light and dark yellow for gold, light and dark black for black nickel, and light and dark burnt orange for copper.
Available Options
- Four plating options - Shiny Silver, Black Nickel, Shiny Gold, and Shiny Copper
- Enamel - Soft enamel PMS colors as per your submitted artwork
(We do not currently offer glitter or glow or other special enamels)
- Vanity Codes - Your tag is assigned a random 7 digit serial number at no additional charge. However, if you wish to spice up your tag and have a custom vanity code on the back - for a one-time $20 fee per design you can submit any 7 character code you wish which includes letters and numbers.

NOTE: Design partners are not employees of Pathtags.com. They're pretty good (or we wouldn't list them on our site!) but they are independant freelancers. Their work is not warrantied by us in any way. As they are freelancers, they are not always able to take new jobs or sometimes even respond to emails. If you are not getting replies, try contacting a different design partner or post a note requesting help in our forums. Design partner services typically cost $25-$35, which you will pay directly to the designer.
